Warhammer again
2026/01/11
Today, the boys and I went back to playing World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, at Nguyen's express request. He absolutely wanted to try it on "maximum difficulty," namely Mythic.
They've already made progress in cooperative play; they manage to agree on things and help each other, which isn't so easy for boys this age, who are naturally competitive. After all, why use an action to move another character if I can use that same action to hit monsters and show how strong I am?
They manage to overcome this selfish mindset without too much trouble now, but they continue to play in the moment, and to top it all off, I've forbidden myself from helping them strategically. So there's no real coordinated plan. They know what to do, but there's a serious lack of communication if i'm not here to push them.
In Mythic mode, the time limit is incredibly tight, the game quickly becomes impossible, or as our Quebec friends would say: "y'a pas l'temps d'niaiser.".
The result: they were overwhelmed. It was predictable. During the debrief, I explained all the tactical errors: it's pointless to waste time killing a ghoul alone, Thrall (Nguyen's character) always needs to be in an area where players are doing the quest to help (and that never happened), they need to plan and coordinate more, etc.
Timer: 1 hour 30 minutes, it was fast. And brutal.
Afterwards, we played a quick jungle speed, just to fill the time. :)

Next session: "In the Footsteps of Marie Curie", we're going to do a little science. :)
This remarkable woman (French, of course), the only person to have two Nobel Prizes in two different disciplines (Physics and Chemistry).
